Who paid the most for their Bitcoin?
The 100 to 1,000 BTC groupTheir average buy price is $66,816. The 10 to 100 BTC group paid the least, at $27,563. Where today's price sits against each line is the story: any group below it is in profit on average.
What did every group pay?
Size of holding Average buy price Share of all coins 10,000+ BTC $56,574 14.8% 1,000 to 10,000 BTC $61,496 21.3% 100 to 1,000 BTC $66,816 25.7% 10 to 100 BTC $27,563 21.0% 1 to 10 BTC $48,706 10.2% 0.1 to 1 BTC $47,520 5.3% 0.01 to 0.1 BTC $48,002 1.4% What should you keep in mind?
An address is not a person. One holder can spread coins across many addresses, and an exchange can keep millions of customers' coins in a few. Read every group as a set of addresses, never a headcount.
The average buy price here is the price each group's coins last changed hands at, averaged across the group. It moves when coins move, not when owners feel differently.
What does this mean for you?
When the price sits above a group's line, that group is in profit on average and has less reason to panic. When price falls below a line, that group is underwater, and past cycles show underwater groups are slower to buy and quicker to give up.
Watch the gap between the highest and lowest lines. When every group's line sits far below the price, the whole market has room to take profit. When the lines converge on the price from above, a lot of holders are near breakeven at once.
