BITCOIN SUPPLY IN PROFIT
How many coins are sitting in profit?
See which coins last moved below the latest price, and which moved above it.
Most coins sit in profit
Every Bitcoin, in profit or at a loss
Orange is every coin that last moved at a lower price than that day’s, blue every coin that last moved at a higher one. Together they make up all the Bitcoin in circulation that day. These are paper gains and losses, not completed sales. At the price peaks of 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2021, more than 99% of coins were in profit.

| Measure | Change | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Coins in profit | 68.2% | 71.2% | +3 points |
| Coins at a loss | 31.8% | 28.8% | −3 points |
| Within 10% of breakeven | 15.4% | 21.0% | +5.6 points |
Right now
71.2% of Bitcoin sits in profit at the latest reading.
The other 28.8% last moved at a higher price than the latest one, so it sits at a loss. The daily coin count puts 14,305,738 BTC in profit and 5,785,373 BTC at a loss.
What changed
The share in profit has risen by 3.0 percentage points over the past 30 days, since 30 Aug 2026.
It was 68.2% 30 days earlier. A change can come from price moving, coins moving, or both.
Last four years
Mid-range. Smoothed over about a week, the share in profit is higher than on about 42% of days in the last four years.
Over those four years the smoothed reading ran from 46.77% to 99.11%. Readings up near that top are where past price peaks came.
Around breakeven
21.0% of coins are within 10% of breaking even.
That is 4,213,590 BTC. These coins already belong to the profit or loss groups, so adding this share to the other two would count them twice. A small price move is enough to carry them from a gain to a loss, or back, so the bigger this group is, the more holders the same move reaches.
For you
Most of all Bitcoin is in profit, and that sits in the middle of the last four years.
A large majority of coins is worth more than the price it last moved at. The more holders sitting on a gain, the more who could take some of it, though a high share can also last through a long climb. The share has been at 95% or more on 800 days since 2011, most recently on 9 Oct 2025.
What to watch from here
- Watch whether the share keeps climbing toward 100%, where the price peaks of 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2021 came.
- Watch whether price moves carry a large share of coins across the line between profit and loss.
The chart shows holders’ paper gains and losses. It does not show whether they plan to sell.
By wallet size
This is the whole market’s share. To see which sizes of holder carry that profit, and which sit underwater, look at the same question by wallet size.
How far ahead, and how far behind?
39.39% of all coins have at least doubled, and 10.56% are down a fifth or more.
One number says how many coins are ahead of the price they last moved at. It cannot say whether they are barely ahead or many times over. Each bar below is one band of coins, lined up by how far the latest price sits from the price they last moved at: the deepest losses at the top, the biggest gains at the bottom.

The far ends
39.39%
of all coins have at least doubled
7,914,703 BTC last moved at less than half the latest price.
10.56%
are down a fifth or more
2,122,010 BTC are worth at least a fifth less than the price they last moved at.
Paper gain and loss
40.98%
paper gain against the whole market’s value
How big the unspent profit is next to what all the coins are worth at the latest price.
5.11%
paper loss against that same value
The unspent losses, measured the same way, so the two can be read against each other.
Whose profit is it?
Most of the market’s paper gain sits with coins held a while.
A single market-wide profit figure does not say who holds it. Split by how long the coins have been held: of the 40.98% paper gain measured against everything the market is worth, 38.78 points sit with coins held a while and 2.21 points with coins that moved recently.
Each group on its own
47.03%
ahead, for coins held a while
Measured against the prices this group’s coins last moved at, not against the market.
12.57%
ahead, for coins that moved recently
Same measure, so the two can be read side by side.
The split above mostly reflects how many coins each side holds, which is why these two figures are the more useful pair: they ask how far ahead each group is on its own coins. A group can hold very little and still be far ahead, or hold a great deal and be barely ahead.
Understanding
Bitcoin Supply in Profit
Where it stands today
Bitcoin Supply in Profit is 71% of coins in profit as of .
What counts as a coin in profit?
Bitcoin supply in profit is the share of all Bitcoin in circulation that is worth more than the price it last moved at. A coin counts as in profit when the day’s Bitcoin price is higher than the price when that coin last moved, and at a loss when it is lower. It is a count of every coin on the blockchain, not a survey or a guess from trading, so it covers every holder at once. It is a useful estimate of where holders stand, not a record of anyone’s actual purchase.
Does moving a coin mean someone bought it?
Not always. People can move Bitcoin between their own wallets without buying or selling. The price at the last move gives one consistent reference that can be followed across every coin, but it cannot reveal each holder’s true purchase price.
Why keep the near-breakeven group separate?
This group holds the coins whose paper gain or loss is within 10% of breaking even, measured against the price they last moved at. Some are slightly in profit and others slightly at a loss. They already sit inside the two main groups, so adding this share to the other two would count them twice.
Is more profit always a stronger market?
A rising price usually puts more coins in profit, but a high share alone does not tell you what happens next. It can come with a long climb or show up near a turning point. Read the change over time alongside price and signs of coins actually moving. See what sellers actually get.
What has a reading near 100% come with before?
Above 95%, nearly every coin is worth more than the price it last moved at. Taking a price peak as a record close that stood unbeaten for at least a year, the share in profit at each one was 100.0% on 8 Jun 2011, 99.2% on 4 Dec 2013, 100.0% on 16 Dec 2017 and 99.9% on 8 Nov 2021. Every one of them was above 95%. The share has also been at 95% or more on 800 days since 2011, so a high reading alone does not mark a peak, and it is not a timing signal.
What has a reading below half come with before?
Below 50%, more than half of all coins are worth less than the price they last moved at. That has happened on 426 days since 2011, most recently on 16 Aug 2026, and each of those days came with the price at least 48% below its record close up to then. The lowest reading was 35.8%, on 14 Jan 2015.

The shares come from 5,751 daily readings since 1 Jan 2011, and the two groups add up to 100% on each. Highest and lowest cover every reading since then; month-end values use the last reading on or before that date. On 29 Sep 2026 the daily coin count put 14,305,738 BTC in profit and 5,785,373 BTC at a loss, 20,091,111 BTC between them. The 4,213,590 BTC within 10% of breakeven, 21.0% of all coins, overlap the other two. The count starts on 1 Jan 2012.
