What does this page show?
Over the years, many well-known people and firms have said where they think Bitcoin's price is going. This page collects those predictions with the words they used, the day they said them, the price they named and the date they gave. It then checks each one against Bitcoin's daily high and low and says plainly what the price did. It is a record of what was said and what happened, and nothing more.
Which predictions are included?
Only predictions that were reported in the press are here, each with a price and a named person or firm. A vague hope with no price is left out, and so is a prediction that depends on something else happening first. Each quote is checked word for word against the page it came from, and the link takes you to that page. Because only some predictions reach the press, this is not every prediction anyone has made, and it is not a fair sample of all of them. Where one outlet is retelling a story from another, the row says it was reported by that outlet. A row tagged "Softened wording" has a quote with a softening word such as could or may.
Who has made predictions?
73 people and firms have a prediction on the record. Most have only a few, so a share that came true is shown only from 5 results, and always beside the count. Everyone is listed in numbers under More detail, beside the newest predictions.
How is a prediction marked as came true or not?
A prediction came true if Bitcoin's daily high reached the price it named on any day from the day it was said to its deadline, both days included. For a prediction that wanted a fall, it is the daily low. When someone names a range of prices, the end nearer to where Bitcoin stood when it was said is the one that counts: the lower end for a rise, the higher end for a fall. It did not come true if the deadline passed without that. Until then it is still open. The check runs again each day from Bitcoin's stored daily prices, so nobody marks a prediction by hand.
What happens when someone changes a prediction?
People update their numbers. When someone names a new price for the same stretch of time, their newest prediction stands as their current one, and the earlier one stays on the record, marked as replaced by a newer prediction. When someone says the same prediction again, it is shown under the first time they said it and counted once. The counts and shares on this page use each prediction's first statement only.
Why do some predictions have no deadline?
Some people name a price and no date. Those predictions cannot miss, because there is always more time, so they stay open until Bitcoin reaches the price. The page counts them as open and says how many there are, so they never pass for a miss or a hit before they are one. Right now 32 of the open predictions have no deadline, so they stay open until Bitcoin reaches them and cannot miss.
What are the price rules?
Alongside the people, Maketo tracks well-known price rules, such as two long price averages crossing, or the price falling to its 200-week average. Each rule says in advance when it is met, using levels Maketo already publishes, so the dates are not picked after the fact. For each rule the page lists each time it fired since 2013. A rule fires on the first day it is met after at least 90 days of not being met (30 days for the Pi Cycle crossing), so one long stretch counts once. Each fire comes with Bitcoin's close that day and what the price did 30 days, 90 days and a year later. Where Maketo had no published level, for stock-to-flow, the rainbow bands and the power-law corridor, it picked a plain one and says so. Most rules have fired only a few times, so the record is short.
Does a past prediction say anything about the next one?
No. A prediction that came true may have been luck, and one that missed may simply have been early. The predictions were made at very different prices, over very different stretches of time, and the people behind them often changed their numbers. Read the page as a record of what was said and what the price did, not as a guide to whose next prediction to trust. Nothing here is advice to buy or sell.
