Every address is sorted by how much Bitcoin sits in it, from the very largest holdings down to dust. But an address is not a person. One person can control thousands of addresses, and a single exchange can hold millions of customers' coins in just a few. Coins that are lost forever still count here too. So read every number below as a count of addresses, never a headcount of people.

How many addresses hold a whole Bitcoin?
About 972,000 addresseshold at least one whole Bitcoin. That's the number most people mean when they ask how many own a whole coin.
That's fewer than 1 in every 50 of the addresses that hold any Bitcoin at all.
Where is most of the Bitcoin?
Ownership is top-heavy: the largest addresses (100+ BTC) hold about 62% of all Bitcoin, a share that has drifted up over recent years.

That top-heavy shape is the normal one for a widely-traded asset, not a red flag on its own. Big exchanges and funds hold coins on behalf of huge numbers of people, so a concentrated list of addresses is not the same as a concentrated list of owners.

Understanding Bitcoin Ownership by Size (Address Distribution)
Line up every Bitcoin address by how much it holds and you get the complete balance ladder. This page shows how many addresses sit in each separate size band, how much Bitcoin each band holds, and links to exact ranges and running totals. It does not estimate how many people own Bitcoin or show whether each group is in profit.
The single most important thing to remember is that an address is not a person or a wallet. One person can spread their coins across thousands of addresses; a single exchange can hold the coins of millions of customers in just a handful. Coins that are lost forever still sit in an address and still get counted. So every figure here is a count of addresses, never a headcount of owners.
Read the two columns together and a clear shape appears. A few thousand large addresses hold most of the Bitcoin in existence, while tens of millions of tiny addresses together hold almost none. Ownership is top-heavy, which is the normal shape for a widely-traded asset rather than a warning sign on its own.

These are raw on-chain address counts. Some trackers group addresses into estimated wallets or entities and show lower counts; both are valid reads of the same data, they just count different things.
