The short version
Everything Maketo makes is free to use, including commercially, as long as you credit Maketo. That covers our charts, our numbers, our written explanations, and our analysis. You can publish them, resize them, translate them, and redraw them in your own style. You do not need to ask us first.
Two things work differently, and both are set out below: reuse at industrial scale, and the news section.
The credit we ask for
Source: Maketo, with a link to the page you took it from. If your format cannot carry a link, the name on its own is fine.
Swap [page] for the path of the page you used, and [date] for the date shown on it.

What this means formally
Maketo publishes its own content under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0) for editorial, journalistic, research, educational, and personal use. Inside that scope the standard CC BY 4.0 terms apply in full. You may share and adapt the work for any purpose, including a commercial one, as long as you give appropriate credit, link to the licence, and say if you changed anything.
If you are a reporter, a researcher, a teacher, or a person writing something, you are inside that scope and you can stop reading here. If your editor or legal team wants the formal text, the link above is the one to send them.
Our name and our logo are not covered by the licence. Trademarks never are. Using them in a way that suggests we endorse you, your product, or your conclusions needs our written permission.
AI assistants and search tools
AI search and answer tools may read, quote and summarise our pages to answer a person’s question, as long as they name Maketo and link to the page they used. AI companies may also use our pages to train their models. Neither needs to ask us first.
Both permissions cover reading and learning from our pages. They do not cover republishing our charts or our numbers in bulk, which is in the next section.
Ask us first
The licence above covers people and newsrooms using our work in their own reporting, research, and writing. It does not cover reuse at a scale where our work stops being a source you cite and starts being the product itself. For that, talk to us first. We answer quickly and we say yes to most things.
Written permission is needed to:
- copy our charts or our numbers in bulk, or on a repeating schedule;
- redistribute our data as a data product, an API, a feed, or an analytics service;
- resell our content, or republish it as the main substance of something you charge for.
This is the difference between quoting a source and taking over its job. Email press@maketo.com and tell us what you want to do.
Where our numbers come from
We work our own figures out. We run our own Bitcoin node and derive the on-chain numbers from the blockchain directly, and we compile the fund-flow numbers ourselves from published fund disclosures. For you that means there is no separate provider whose permission you need to check before republishing something you found here.
News is the exception
Our news pages are the one part of the site this licence does not cover. They carry headlines, short excerpts, and links from other publishers. Those belong to whoever wrote them, not to us, so we cannot give you permission to reuse them. Maketo’s own writing about a story is covered as normal, and so are the illustrations we draw for the news cards. Section 8 of our Terms of Use explains how we handle third-party material.

If we get something wrong
We publish corrections on the page itself, with the date and what changed. If you have cited something we later correct, email us and we will tell you. We would rather you heard it from us.
