Understanding
Bybit Bitcoin Bid-Ask Spread

Where it stands today

The gap between the best buy and sell price on Bybit averaged 0.0128 hundredths of a percent over the day as of .

What is the bid-ask spread?

At any moment the order book holds a best offer to buy and a best offer to sell, and the two never quite meet. The gap between them is the spread. It is the smallest cost of trading at once: buy at the best price to sell and sell straight back at the best price to buy, and the gap is what you lose.

Why hundredths of a percent?

It is measured as a share of the price rather than in dollars, so a day at a higher price does not look wider for that alone. On a busy exchange the gap is a small fraction of one percent, which is why it is quoted in hundredths of a percent, and it is averaged across the day rather than caught at one instant.

What does it tell you?

A narrow gap means the two sides sit close together and trading costs little to cross. A gap that widens while the orders near the price thin out is one side of the book stepping back. How much money waits at each distance from the price is Bybit's order book depth, on a page of its own.
