Why this total is smaller than you might read elsewhere
A group total is only as complete as the companies in it. We count the ones whose documents we read line by line, so a total here is a tracked total and not a market total, and treating one as the other is the easiest way to be wrong while quoting a correct number.
Why a group gets its own history
Most trackers rank companies and stop. Ranking cannot tell you whether European companies have been buying together or whether one of them has been carrying the rest, and that is the question a daily group total answers.
