What is funding rate?
A perpetual contract never expires, so something has to stop its price drifting away from the real one. That something is the funding rate: at fixed times through the day, one side pays the other. When the rate is positive the traders betting on a rise pay the traders betting on a fall, which is the market saying that betting up is the crowded side. When it is negative the payment runs the other way.
Why more than one line?
The number here is the whole day added up, not a single settlement, because Gate charges the fee more than once a day. That is why the count of settlements sits beside it: a day that settled twice instead of three times moves the daily figure without the rate itself moving at all, and without the count the two are impossible to tell apart.
What does it tell you?
A rate that stays high for weeks is expensive to sit through, and it is often what makes a crowded position unwind. It is a cost, not a forecast: it says what holding costs today, never where the price goes next.
