Has it changed lately?

The reserve holds about as much Bitcoin as it did thirty days ago.

The reserve grows when Bitcoin goes in to make new tokens, and shrinks when tokens are handed back and Bitcoin comes out.

Is it the issuer's own Bitcoin?

No. These coins back the tokens, which other people hold, so they are not the issuer's own savings.

That is why they are kept out of every company and government total on the treasury pages.

Companies that hold Bitcoin for themselves

How do we know?

The issuer of Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) publishes a list of the Bitcoin addresses that hold its reserve (109 addresses). We read every coin that has ever moved in or out of those addresses on our own copy of the Bitcoin network, and add up what is on them at the end of each day.

We take the list from the issuer and nothing else. The balances the issuer prints beside it are its own word, so we count the coins ourselves.

Understanding
Wrapped Bitcoin Reserves

Where it stands today

The Bitcoin on the addresses the wrapped Bitcoin issuers on this page publish as their reserve comes to 116,511.99293688 BTC as of .

What is wrapped Bitcoin?

A token on another network that is meant to stand for one Bitcoin. New tokens are made when Bitcoin goes into the issuer's reserve, and tokens are taken back when Bitcoin comes out, so the real coins sit in the reserve while the tokens are out.

Why count the reserve?

A token is only as good as the Bitcoin behind it. If the coins on the reserve addresses fell short of the tokens out there, some tokens would have nothing behind them. So we count what is actually on the addresses rather than take the issuer's total on trust.

Why does the line move?

It rises when Bitcoin goes in for new tokens and falls when tokens are handed back. A big one-day drop can also be the issuer moving coins to an address it has not added to its published list yet. The line counts only the addresses on that list, so coins moved off it show as a drop.

Is this a Bitcoin treasury?

No. A treasury is Bitcoin a company or a government holds for itself. These coins back tokens other people hold, so they have their own page and stay out of every company and government total. How the treasury figures are put together.
