Across the whole market
The merged order book has a page of its own. This page ranks each exchange and never adds them up, so it does not repeat that number.
What can't a spread tell you?
A tight gap is how close the best two prices sat, not a promise that a large order would fill there: the orders behind the best prices decide that.
Understanding
Bitcoin Bid-Ask Spread by Exchange
Where it stands today
Binance has the tightest bid-ask spread of the 4 exchanges we compare, at 0.0015 hundredths of a percent as of .
What is the bid-ask spread?
It is the gap between the best price anyone will pay for Bitcoin and the best price anyone will sell it for, as a share of the price. It is the smallest cost of trading at once: buy at the best price to sell and sell straight back, and the gap is what you lose.
Why the tightest first?
A narrower gap is the better reading for someone trading, so this ranking runs from the tightest to the widest, and each bar in it is that gap as a share of the widest.
Why only some exchanges?
Four exchanges have a page for its spread today, and each is a card here.
Why is nothing added up?
These are separate exchanges measuring the same thing, so adding two of them together would produce a number that describes no market. Each bar in the ranking is how large that row is next to the largest row in the table, never a share of a total.
Where do the numbers come from?
Maketo records them at each exchange, one reading a day. Nothing here is bought in.
