Understanding
Bitcoin Open Interest and Funding by Exchange
Where it stands today
Open interest and funding: $25.92 billion riding on open bets across 11 exchanges as of .
Traders on Binance have $9.58 billion riding on bets that are still open as of .
What is open interest?
Open interest is the money tied up in futures bets that are still open at the end of the day. More of it means more is riding on where the price goes, in either direction.
What is a funding rate?
A funding rate is the fee one side of a perpetual futures bet pays the other to keep the bet tied to the spot price. When bets on a rise pay, more people are leaning that way.
What is a long/short ratio?
The long/short ratio compares the accounts betting on a rise with the accounts betting on a fall. Above 1, more accounts lean up; below 1, more lean down.
What is a liquidation?
A liquidation is a bet the exchange closed by force because the money behind it ran out. A wave of them can push the price further in the direction it was already moving.
Why doesn't every exchange have all four?
Not every exchange offers every kind of bet, and a reading gets a page of its own only once it has two weeks of daily history. So the four readings hold different numbers of cards, and a card appears here on the day its page does.
Where do the numbers come from?
Maketo records them at each exchange, one reading a day. Nothing here is bought in.
